Strontium is a silver white alkaline earth metal with yellow luster. The element symbol is Sr. Strontium exists as a compound in nature. It can be prepared by electrolysis of fused strontium chloride. The melting point is 769 ℃. The boiling point is 1384 ℃. The density is 2.54 g / cm3. Strontium reacts with water to form strontium hydroxide and hydrogen at room temperature. Strontium is oxidized to yellow in air. Because strontium is very active, it should be kept in kerosene.
